Coyote Ridge Corrections Center (CRCC) occupies approximately 110 acres.  The Medium Security Complex (MSC) is on approximately 60 areas while the Minimum Security Unit (MSU) occupies approximately 50 acres.  Both are within the city limits of Connell.  Currently there is over 400 facility and contract staff members employed at CRCC.

Note: Visitors must leave the facility between 4:00 and 5:45pm if they wish to continue their visit later on the same day.

Visitors are no longer able to bring cash into the visitation room. Visitors may purchase a Debitek card to use in the vending machines. To purchase the card the visitor must have a five dollar bill, the machine will not accept any other bill for purchase. Once the card is purchased they can put up to 75 dollars on the card using one, five, ten or twenty dollar bills.

Lockers are provided for visitors at MSC.

Sending a Quarterly Package?

2009 Package Information

Updates have been made to 450.120 Packages for Offenders and is the policy that outlines quarterly gift packages. Please note there have been significant changes to the quarterly gift package guidelines effective March 1, 2009.

Take the time to review the DOC Policy 440.000 Personal Property for Offenders before sending items to offenders. Personal property items purchased by family and friends are not authorized, except as allowed in a Quarterly Package. Quarterly Gift packages may include new shoes only.

Books are NOT considered property. Books are considered publications (mail) and are authorized as long as they arrive directly from any publishing company (like Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Borders, etc.) and meet the guidelines per DOC Policy 450.100 Mail for Offenders.

Facility History

Construction of the 600 bed CRCC-MSU in the City of Connell began in October 1991. The first offenders arrived in May 1992. The facility was built at a cost of $15,635,000, including land acquisition, construction and equipment.  Construction on the 2,048 CRCC-MSC began in October 2006.  The first offenders arrived on February 4, 2009.

Programs

Walla Walla Community College provides basic educational classes as well as vocational programming in Information Technology, Building Maintenance, Welding, Auto Repair and HVAC. Other offender programs include Inside Outside Dads Job Hunter and Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT).  Employment Security provides offenders to prepare them for employment upon release.

Correctional Industries Programs

A production plant , food factory and laundry are operated by Correctional Industries (CI). Offenders employed by CI perform a variety of task, including manufacturing sheets, towels, knit socks and related items. CI materials and operating costs are paid from sales revenue.

Community Involvement

Several community work crews employ offenders, supervised by trained correctional officers to provide services to surrounding communities at a reduced cost. Public agencies and non-profit organizations hire offender crewsto maintain properties, buildings, parks, roads, water lines, and sewage systems.
